Red Packet Recycle
After Lunar New Year, a vibrant and cherished celebration, it is commonplace for students to receive red packets filled with money and good wishes. However, a concerning trend has emerged: many of these students simply discard the empty envelopes in the trash once the festive season is over. This practice, while seemingly harmless at first glance, reflects an incredibly unsustainable habit that contributes to unnecessary waste year after year.
Recognizing this issue, Serve HK successfully launched a campaign to collect these empty envelopes for more sustainable purposes. This year, we encouraged students and families to rethink their post-celebration habits and brought their unused red packets to designated drop-off points.
This initiative not only aimed to reduce waste but also honored the traditions associated with Lunar New Year in a more environmentally friendly manner. Through this campaign, we fostered a sense of responsibility among students, encouraging them to consider the impact of their choices on the environment.
